The Punjab Subordinate Services Federation took out a protest rally at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, demanding revival of the old pension scheme for government employees on Tuesday.
The old pension scheme was scrapped in 2004 and was replaced by a contributory pension scheme.
The agitators also demanded regular jobs for contractual employees, implementation of sixth pay commission report and release of arrears of dearness allowance. The federation also demanded increase in remuneration of mid-day meal workers.
Narinder Singh, general secretary of the federation, said the employees would be forced to intensify their protest if the government failed to fulfil their demands. The protesters were also addressed by Swinder Singh Bhatti, Mangal Singh, Prem Chand Azad, Jatin Sharma and other leaders.
