Amritsar, August 9

The youth outreach initiative of the Dilbir Foundation (DF), engaged with school and college students, has asked them to make radical change towards healthy food habits as well as take command of the highly-degraded environment. An exhibition on organic food items and sustainable products was organised at DAV College for Men where plastic substitutes, chemical-free products, bagasse plates, newspaper pencils and hundreds of other natural food products were displayed and garnered attention of both students and staff.

While the exhibition continued through the day, a presentation on the ‘’history of food and sustainable living’’ was showed to youth. They were apprised of the terrible effects of the synthetic and chemical constituents.

Of junk food, fast food, flavoured soda drinks, bulk manufactured bakery products etc. on the health of their generation.

Dr Rajesh Kumar, Principal, urged students to recognise that poor food habits and disease have a singular connection, and that scientific evidences suggest deep impact of chemicals and plastic on our food chain and ecology.

Foundation president Gunbir Singh stressed that the generation of the 1900s had made a mess of the environment and it was the new generation that had to bear the consequences. “Youth of today are more aware and must take the command of the ecology. They should be well aware that toxic food production and processing is unacceptable. They should also work towards reversing the environmental degradation of the past.”
