An ASI died, when his service weapon fired suddenly at a naka in Goindwal Sahib at Kapurthla crossing on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Baskhshish Singh (46). He had just come to the naka for his duty. Inspector Rajinder Singh, SHO, Goindwal Sahib, said the deceased was just taking charge of the weapons from the police party that performed the night duty.

He was de-loading the magazine from the SLR that went off suddenly and he died on the spot as a bullet pierced through his head.

The deceased is survived by his wife and two sons aged 17 and 15 years.

A report under Section 174 of the CrPC was lodged on the statement of ASI Sarbarinder Singh, who was on duty at the naka party.
