The last date of filing nomination papers is February 20. Harjinder Singh Sandhu, District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO)-cum-Returning Officer for Ward No. 1 to 13 and Ikbal Singh, Naib Tehsildar-cum-Assistant Returning Officer for Ward No. 14 to 25 confirmed that no candidate filed nomination papers on Monday.

The election schedule for the municipal council was released on Sunday. Candidates visited office of the MC on Monday for the required documents like the NOC for dues paid to the civic body, including drinking water, sewerage and other charges.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
