Opposing the state government’s move to regularise their services after reducing their salaries, teachers of government schools under the banner of Sanjha Adhiapka Morcha staged a protest in front of local MLA Dr Dharambeer Agnihotri’s residence on Wednesday.
The situation got tense when the police tried to stop the protesters form sitting on a dharna in front of the MLA’s residence. However, the teachers protested for hours.
A handful number of female teachers also participated in the protest.
In the absence of the MLA, his son Sandeep Agnihotri received a memorandum from the protesters.
Addressing the protesters, Baldev Singh Basra, Sarabjit Singh Warhian, Nachhattar Singh and others teachers flayed the state government for its decision to reduce the salaries of the teachers working under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
The protesters accused the state government of adopting a dictatorial and repressive attitude by suspending and transferring the agitating teachers.
They also raised slogans against the state government, Education Minister and Education Secretary.
