Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) president and former minister Inderbir Singh Nijjar has been working on educational reforms aimed at enhancing quality of education with technology, academic innovation and holistic development of students.
In a major thrust to teacher empowerment, regular professional development workshops for teachers of kindergarten to senior secondary classes have been organized by CKD. These programmes focus on modern pedagogy, project-based learning, technology integration and innovative teaching methodologies. The programmes propose a shift away from conventional book learning towards technology-driven classrooms and allow teachers to develop integrated learning methods. Initiatives for technology integration at CKD schools include AI-aligned computer curricula, establishment of robotics labs and screen-free coding methodologies. English language and IT-based learning are being enhanced at schools by expert teams.
The CKD runs three free schools for needy children, in which it provides full fee exemption, free books and uniforms. In partnership with the Punjab Government, the CKD operates three Adarsh Schools to strengthen public education. Through social responsibility initiatives such as free Gurmat Vidya education for girl students supported by the Nishkam Sewa Trust, CKD continues to uphold its core value of education for all.Recognising the importance of strong academic foundations, the CKD has introduced abacus and Vedic mathematics across its schools, significantly improving numeracy skills, logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities in students.
In alignment with NEP 2020 and NCERT 2023, the CKD has ensured the adoption of affordable, NCERT-aligned textbooks to ease the financial burden on parents, while initiatives to lighten school bags promote inclusive and equitable education. Academic reforms to strengthen academic foundations include the launch of board examinations for Classes V and VIII and foundation-building programmes for Classes X and XII. wuw
