Tarn Taran: Three persons have been booked for allegedly committing a theft in a shop in Patti. One of the accused is a servant of the shopkeeper, Gurmeet Singh. The accused have been identified as Amrik Singh Maniala, Jai Singh and Rajesh Kumar, a migrant. The shopkeeper mentioned in his complaint that the accused took away 150 bags of plaster of paris (POP) from his store as his servant Amrik Singh had the keys of the shop.OC

Road accident claims two lives

Tarn Taran: Two men died and a woman sustained severe injuries when two scooters collided on the highway near Rasulpur village, six km from here, on Monday morning. ASI Balbir Singh, investigating officer, said the deceased had been identified as Harjit Singh (25) of Ubboke (Patti) and Darshan Singh (45) of Nallah (Lohian). Jagir Kaur, wife of Darshan Singh, has been admitted to the Civil Hospital. The Sadar police have lodged a report under Section 174 of the CrPC. The ASI said Darshan Singh, along with his wife, was on his Activa (PB-08 CY-6805) when Harjit’s scooter (PB-46 Temp-201) collided with him. Harjit and Darshan died on the spot. OC

Civil Hospital gets 16 specialists

Amritsar: The Health Department has appointed 16 new specialists at Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs Memorial Civil Hospital to address the shortage of doctors. With this, the shortage of doctors would be done away with, officials said. Around seven doctors of the hospital have been selected for senior residency course at medical colleges, so many departments of the hospital were closed as no doctor was available. As per the orders, two doctors have been appointed in the medicine department, two in gynaecology, two in surgery, one in pediatrics, one in anesthesia, one for school health programme, two in orthopedic, three in pathology, one in radiology and one in microbiology. Event on drug abuse organised

Amritsar: An event was organised to create awareness on drug abuse in Pawan Nagar, under the leadership of social activist Ankur Gupta, on Sunday. During the event, the speakers encouraged the youth to get registered under the DAPO programme as volunteers. They said such events would be organised in schools and colleges so that the students are informed about the harms of the drugs at an early age. TNS.
