AMRITSAR: The Mehta police have booked a travel agency owner, Sahilnoor Singh, for allegedly defrauding a local woman on the pretext of sending her daughter abroad.

The Mehta police have booked a travel agency owner, Sahilnoor Singh, for allegedly defrauding a local woman on the pretext of sending her daughter abroad.

Hardip Kaur, wife of Harjit Singh, a resident of Mehta Chowk, told the police that the accused took Rs 3.70 lakh from her in May 2015 for sending her daughter Baljit Kaur abroad. He allegedly handed over a fake visa to her.

She said that she came in contact with Sahilnoor through a common friend. He is the managing director of Jagdambay Worldwide Enterprises located at the City Centre near Sangam Cinema. She said her daughter was to be sent to Cyprus as per the deal. He handed over a fake visa to her.

When the accused did not return the money, she lodged a police complaint. An inquiry was conducted by the Economics Offence wing which handed over the probe to higher police officials. The Mehata police have registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC.
