Truck driver found dead in Amritsar

A truck driver was found dead inside his vehicle in the C-Division police station area here on Wednesday, triggering a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to initial information, upon receiving an alert that a truck was parked under suspicious circumstances, the police reached the spot and found the driver’s body inside the vehicle.

Truck owner Raman Kumar Raju said the vehicle, which was loaded with wheat, had left the Tarn Taran grain market during the night and was headed towards Kapurthala. However, when its GPS location was checked in the morning, the truck was found stationed in Amritsar.

The deceased was identified as Nishan Singh, a resident of Shekh Chak village in Tarn Taran. He had reportedly told his family that he would return home by the morning.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the truck was carrying around 25 tonnes of wheat. Locals informed the police that unidentified persons allegedly stole the wheat by loading it into e-rickshaws. The exact quantity of stolen wheat is yet to be ascertained.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh said further investigation is underway. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
