An ex-soldier was shot at and injured by three persons over an old enmity at Jhande village that falls under Kathunangal police station here on Monday. The victim has been identified as Hardev Singh. He was rushed to a hospital where a case of murder attempt and under the Arms Act was registered against the suspects.

Those booked include Sukha Singh, Chhindar Singh and Baldev Singh, all residents of same village. Hardev stated to the police that on Friday evening when he was going to a market nearby on his bike for some work when the accused intercepted him. They shouted and threatened to teach him a lesson for making rounds of the village. He alleged Sukha Singh fired at him using a country-made .315 bore pistol, but he escaped narrowly. He said Chhinder Singh hit a sharp weapon on his head, leaving him bleeding profusely. When he raised the alarm and called for help, the accused fled away with their weapons. He said he was taken to a government hospital in Majitha.

Sub-Inspector Narinder Singh said a case under Sections 307, 324, 323, 379, 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27 of the Arms Act was registered against the three accused in this connection. No arrest has been made so far as the accused are on the run.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Gurjit Singh of Hamja village sustained a bullet injury when around six persons attacked him. He stated to the police that he was watering his plot while his father was inspecting his tomato crop on the other side of the plot on Sunday when the accused, armed with firearms, attacked him. They fired two gunshots. One hit his waist while another missed him. Later, the accused fled away after seeing him hit by the bullet.

He said his father Kulwant Singh rushed him to a private hospital where he was under treatment. The police have registered a case under Sections 307, 323, 120-B of the IPC and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against the suspects, identified as Manpreet Singh, Dilpreet Singh and four unknown persons. No arrest has been made so far. An old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident. — TNS
