The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar, in-charge, Kot Khalsa police post, Amritsar city, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said ASI Raj Kumar was nabbed on the basis of an online complaint lodged by Amanchain Singh, a resident of New Udham Singh Nagar, Amritsar, on the Punjab Government’s anti-corruption action line.

The spokesperson said the complainant had alleged that the ASI demanded Rs 6 lakh from him in lieu of getting a clean chit for him and his four relatives in an inquiry of a murder case registered at the Division B police station.

During investigation of the complaint, it was proved that the accused ASI had taken a graft of Rs 6 lakh from the complainant for the getting their names cleared in the murder case.

The spokesperson said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the ASI at the VB police station, Amritsar range. Further probe was on, he said while adding that the ASI would be produced in a court tomorrow.
