Woman dies by suicide; husband, in-laws booked

A woman, who was perturbed over the indifferent attitude of her husband and in-laws, allegedly died by suicide by swallowing a poisonous substance kept in her house on the day of Lohri at Jhander village. The deceased has been identified as Kulbir Kaur (34) and has two children, a 13-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son.

Nirmal Singh, father of the deceased and resident of Jamalpur (Baba Bakala), informed the police that her husband Mantaj Singh, her married sister-in-law Pammo, a resident of Warring village, and sister-in-law (wife of her husband’s elder brother) Harjinder Kaur had been harassing her daughter mentally and physically without any reason.

Nirmal said that yesterday the accused harassed her so much that she got angry and swallowed some poisonous substance kept in the house. She was brought to a Amritsar private hospital, where she died soon after being admitted.

The investigating officer of the case from local Sadar police ASI Harpreet Singh said that a case had been registered against the accused under Section 108, 3(5) of the BNS. He said that the accused had fled the spot and raids were being conducted to arrest them.
