According to police, Kuldeep and his wife Kashish, who run a salon and beauty parlour in the area, were working when two masked youths arrived on a motorcycle and fired multiple shots at the salon before fleeing the spot, brandishing their pistol in the air.
One of the bullets pierced through the shop’s shutter and struck Kashish in the leg. She sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the couple had received an extortion call on January 3 from an unknown foreign WhatsApp number, demanding Rs 1 crore. They reportedly ignored the call and did not lodge a complaint with the police at the time.
Police initiated an investigation, scanning CCTV cameras installed in and around the area.
DSP Ravinder Singh said further investigation is underway and the extortion threat is being examined.
