Two miscreants riding a motorcycle targeted a woman and snatched her gold earrings while she was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her husband on Saturday.
One of the robbers, who tried to flee after committing the crime, was caught by locals near Majha College and the National Highway and was handed over to the police. His accomplice, however, managed to escape after snatching the earrings.
The victim’s husband, Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Dilawalpur, said that he was returning to his village from Tarn Taran on his motorcycle with his wife, Sukhwinder Kaur, when one of the miscreants approached from behind near Majha College. The accused allegedly struck him with an iron rod, injuring him.
Owing to the sudden attack, Kulwinder Singh lost control of the motorcycle and fell onto the road. Taking advantage of the situation, the robbers snatched his wife’s gold earrings. Meanwhile, with the help of his relative Balwant Singh, who was also riding a motorcycle and accompanying them, Kulwinder Singh managed to apprehend one of the accused.
The arrested accused was identified as Gaavi, a resident of Jhuggian Muradpur in Tarn Taran. His accomplice, Joni, also a resident of the same locality, fled the scene on the motorcycle.
ASI Hira Singh of the Sadar police station said that a case has been registered under Section 304 of the BNS in connection with the incident. He added that raids are being conducted to arrest the absconding accused.
