Youth robbed of Rs 4K cash, cellphone at gunpoint
Several armed persons snatched a mobile phone and Rs 4,000 cash from a 17-year-old boy, identified as Karanbir Singh, of Gharindi village here yesterday. He had gone on a morning run and was returning home on foot when the accused surrounded and thrashed him before decamping with his belongings.
Among those identified as Gurbir Singh alias Golu of Achintkot village, Joban and three unknown persons. The police have registered a case under Section 304 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against them.
The police said that efforts were on to nab Gurbir and Jobwn while investigations were in progress to identify the remaining three suspects.
The victim told the police that yesterday as per routine he went out of the house for running to Hoshiar Nagar village and was returning home at Gharindi village. He said when he reached near the drain in the evening, five persons came on two bikes from behind and surrounded him. The said they had covered their faced and started beating him up. They took out his mobile phone and cash to the tune of Rs 4000 from his pocket. He said one of them hit him with pistol’s butt.
He said that they threatened him to shoot in case he raised an alarm. He said during scuffle their faces got uncovered and he identified two of them as Gurbir Singh and other one was Joban who was carrying the pistol.
The police said raids were on to arrest Gurbir and Joban who were absconding since the incident and further probe was on to identify the remaining accused.
