Youth shot dead in gang war in Baba Bakala tehshil, police says probe on
A man was shot dead at Chunga village in Baba Bakala tehsil falling under the Mehta police station here on Sunday. A gang war is stated to be the reason behind the incident. The deceased was identified as Varinder Singh, who was alleged to be member of notorious Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang. The police said further investigation was still in progress.
Maninder Singh, SSP, Amritsar (Rural) said the police were probing into all possible aspects. According to information, Varinder was going to partake langar organised by villagers for devotees going to Anandpur Sahib for Hola Mohalla celebrations, the SSP said. When he reached there, several unknown bike-borne persons arrived there and shot him, the SSP said.

After the incident, a social media handle in the name of another gangster Gopi Ghanshampuria claimed that gangsters Balwinder Singh, alias Dony Bal, Prabh Dasuwal, Billa Manga and Kaushal Chaudhry takes the responsibility of the murder. It also claimed that Varinder, alias Vicky, was gunned down by their accomplices Daddi Chohan and Afridi Toot.
It further said that Varinder was close to Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and he had give shelters to those who had killed their leader Rana Kandowalia. The SSP said the police was verifying facts and making efforts to identify shooters. The body of the deceased was taken into custody and sent for autopsy, he added.
