IT is believed that a definite form of State aid will be given to new industries in India after the war. In the meantime the local Governments do have the power to give such assistance to new industries as they consider necessary. At the last meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, it was explained that the Government give a loan of Rs. 20,000 to the proprietor of the glass works at Moradabad in the state on the security of his land and buildings. The loan is free of interest for two years but will bear interest at 6 per cent. thereafter. It is to be repaid in 10 annual instalments. If similar terms on loans are offered to others, it is possible that a large number of enterprising men will come forward to start small industries all over the country, which would be a good move.
