The crime branch on Tuesday arrested three men who used to dupe people after swapping their ATM cards.
The accused has been identified as Abid, Adil and Shakib, all residents of Palwal, Haryana, said the police.
One pistol, one fired cartridge, two live cartridges, 95 ATM cards, one Chevrolet car has been recovered from the accused said the police.
Recently some incidents of cheating uneducated people in sub-urban areas were reported by fraudulently swapping their ATM cards and withdrawing money from them were reported, said the police. Modus operandi of such incidents was closely examined and sources were deployed, the police said, adding, on a tip-off a gang headed by Sakib carrying illegal firearms was held after an encounter, said DCP Rajesh Deo.
During interrogation the accused disclosed that they used to operate across India and target elderly persons and search for an ATM booth where no guard was on duty and the machine was either not functional or out of cash, said the DCP.
