Soldier deployed along LoC shoots self

A soldier has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at an Army camp near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Khour area of the Akhnoor sector in Jammu.
The deceased has been identified as Rifleman Ranbir Singh (28) from Punjab. He was on guard duty at Hamirpur Nawan Military Garrison in the Khour area when he shot himself with his service rifle. He died instantly.
A senior police officer said: “As per initial reports, it appears that the soldier used his service rifle to end his life.” The officer said the deceased probably pressed the trigger after keeping the nozzle of his gun under the chin.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his unit after medical and legal formalities.
The Army has started a court of inquiry.
