Chandigarh: Malaysian low-cost airline AirAsia will introduce a daily flight from the Chandigarh international airport that will ply between Delhi and the city, beginning August 1. A flight from Delhi to Chandigarh will leave at 10.40 am and is expected to arrive in the city around 11.50 am.

Councillors visit Parliament

Chandigarh: The city Mayor and councillors on Wednesday visited Parliament and also met MP Kirron Kher, who is there for the Parliament session, and discussed issues with her. Devinder Singh Babla, Congress councillor, said they asked the MP to arrange funds from the Centre for the cash-starved corporation. A BJP councillor said it was a courtesy call and there was no agenda. TNS

Bootlegger held in Baltana

Zirakpur: The Baltana police have arrested a bootlegger on Tuesday. The suspect has been identified as Rashid, a resident of UP. Bhinder Singh, Incharge of the Baltana police post, said the Activa-borne suspect was stopped at a naka near Harmilap Nagar. On checking, cops recovered 48 bottles of illicit liquor from him. A case under the Excise Act has been registered at the Zirakpur police station. OC

Batteries of bikes stolen

Chandigarh: Batteries of four motorcycles parked outside the Punjab and Haryana High Court were stolen on Tuesday. According to the police, complaints of battery thefts were received from Jagjit Singh of Sector 22, Yogesh Kumar of Zirakpur, Gurnam Singh of Sector 23 and Vikas Chander of Sector 10, Panchkula. Separate cases have been registered at the Sector 3 police station. TNS

Man held with smack, vials

Chandigarh: A 34-year-old man has been arrested for possessing 50 grams of smack and 10 banned injections. According to the police, the suspect, Ravi, alias Raja, of Dadu Majra Colony, was nabbed near the Shahpur light point on Tuesday. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect at the Maloya police station. The police have initiated an investigation into it. TNS

Three held for raping minors

Ambala: The district police have arrested three persons in separate minor rape and abduction cases, the officials said. Nitmal alias Niku was arrested for abducting and raping a minor girl in Mahesh Nagar on December 12, 2018. The accused was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody, the officials said. In a separate case, Rajat and Yogesh were arrested for raping another minor girl. According to the officials, the victim had reported to the police that she was abducted and raped on June 7. Both accused were remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a local court. TNS

Five arrested for thefts

Ambala: The district police have arrested five persons in separate cases of thefts and claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle and iron grills from their possession, the officials said. Jagjit Singh alias Gullu and Rocky of Naraingarh were arrested for stealing a motorcycle of Ashwani Kumar of Mullana on June 26. The police arrested both accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to 14-day judicial remand. In a separate case, Rajat, Gaurav and Harmeet of Parav were arrested for stealing iron grills from the house of Gurdeep Singh in Parav on July 22, said the police. The trio were remanded to 14-day judicial custody. TNS

143 violators challaned 

Ambala: The district police have arrested 143 more drivers for violating traffic rules during the past 24 hours. According to the police, 69 traffic violators were issued e-challans, while 15 two-wheeler drivers were challaned for overloading. TNS
