Amritsar: Two jail inmates attacked another prisoner inside the Amritsar Central Jail premises on Sunday, leaving him seriously injured. According to Assistant Superintendent (Jails) Ajmer Singh, two prisoners, Harpreet Singh alias Happy of Cheema Khurd village and Vishal Kumar of New Model Colony, attacked Dhnanjay Ram alas Vicky in the ground and hit his head with a brick. Dhnanjay started bleeding profusely and was rushed to jail hospital. He was later shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment. Harpreet was nabbed for allegedly luring and kidnapping a girl while Vishal was held with illegal weapons. The police have registered a fresh case under Section 52 of the Prisons Act against them. Sept 21: Veer naris sammelan
Amritsar: The Panther Division is organising the Veer Nari Sammelan at New Amritsar military station, Khasa, to encourage and honour the veer naris of Amritsar and Taran-Taran districts and to remember their sacrifice of bravery on September 21. The representatives of the Army and civil administration will meet and help them in solving their problems. All veer naris of Amritsar and Tarn Taran district whose husbands were martyred in some or the other war, widows of soldiers whose husbands died while on duty and the disabled soldier (battle causality) have been invited by authorities to attend the meet. ‘One nation, one language’ flayed
Amritsar: Damdami Taksal head Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa has slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposal of “One nation, one language”. He said the statement was met with discordant notes equally by Southern peninsula of the country and Northern states as well. Khalsa said Shah’s statement was in contravention to the spirit of Constitution and he viewed other Indian languages as inferior. He said India was a multi-lingual, multi-cultural, multi-ethic and multi-religious country. TNS
