Amritsar: The first batch of 43 students of BVSc & AH passed out from Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS) here today. The students were awarded their provisional degree certificates by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina in a ceremony held on the occasion. The college has veterinary hospital at Mahal village on the city outskirts. Chhina along with the Principal of the college, Dr SK Jand, and senior faculty congratulated the students, who had come from all over the country for their five year bachelor programmes.

‘Women rights are the human rights’ was the focus of an extension lecture on “Legal issues and women empowerment” held at Khalsa College of Education (KCE) here today. The District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Gurbir Singh, who was the keynote speaker on the occasion, highlighted the plight of women and their long battle to get the due respect and honour in the male-dominated society. He said, “ A woman has been oppressed in society for centuries and the legal empowerment has led to her emancipation. She is having her voice heard now in all the sectors.” Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Girish Bansal, gave a detailed account of the progress and scope of legal services, which were provided free to women and downtrodden. KCE Principal, Dr JS Dhillon, appreciated successful working of legal aid clinics, which are providing help to victims of crime in society. — TNS
