Though the government increased the number of wards by delimitation of ward, from 65 to 85, the number of safai karamcharis has not been increased in the same proportion. The councillors have been demanding equal number of safai karamcharis to address the issue. In a recent meeting, several councillors raised the issue of equal distribution of safai karamcharis.
Mamta Datta, senior Congress councillor, claimed that some of the areas in her ward were deprived of the workers. They have to make their own arrangements for the cleanliness in those particular areas. We need at least three more workers for the same in our ward.
The councillors claimed that the number of wards has been increased from 65 to 85, but the arrangement for sanitation has not been in place.
Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu assured the councillors to provide right infrastructure for sanitation and the required number of safai karamcharis.
