Amritsar, May 31
Parents of wards studying in various schools of the district today held a massive protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam. They also gheraoed his official vehicle, forcing him to take another vehicle to go out from his office.
The protest was the manifestation of the anger of the parents after they learnt from their leaders that the Deputy Commissioner had refused to extend the deadline of depositing fee, citing possessing no power under the law.
Earlier, the district administration had given directions to private schools to not accept fee deposit till May 31. In scorching heat, hundreds of parents under the tutelage of the Punjab Parents Association (PPA) and the Parents Welfare Association (PWA) gathered at the DC office.
They raised slogans against the district authorities to rein in arrogant managements of private schools. Some leaders from the Congress and the AAP also took part in the agitation.
The parents said the managements of private schools should return the inflated fees charged from the parents. They stated that this could not be achieved as the leaders of the two ruling parties are indirect partners in some of the schools.
