Chandigarh administrator VP Singh Badnore on Thursday vowed to make Chandigarh a frontrunner city on the national map.

Badnore urged the residents of the city to come forward for its development and to take it to new heights with a new fervour and energy.

While addressing a function at the Parade Ground on Independence Day, Badnore listed the achievements of the city in various fields. He unfurled the national flag and also gave awards to those who had performed exceptionally well in their respective fields.

Badnore said the city had achieved the first rank in performance grading index announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

He said that with a view to providing housing to all Chandigarh Housing Board had constructed 4,960 small flats at Maloya for rehabilitation of slum dwellers with all facilities like the community centres, Janj Ghar, bus queue shelters and schools.

Badnore said the administration had improved the health facilities in the city. With 100 per cent institutional deliveries and 100 per cent functional first referral units the city had achieved the first position (amongst UTs) as per the NITI Ayog Health Index 2019 report.

To ease the traffic problem, Chandigarh is persuading Punjab and Haryana to construct a ring road. He said many projects under the Smart City mission had started, which included supplying 24x7 water supply.
