The Bathinda police on Sunday claimed to have solved 10 cases of snatching in the city by arresting two gang members involved in theft and snatching-related incidents.
While addressing a press conference, IG, Bathinda Range, Arun Kumar Mittal, said: “On the basis of a tip-off, the police arrested Jaswinder Singh alias Happy of Bachan Colony and Veer Singh of Bucho Kalan village, who were involved in various snatching cases, on Sunday. They were nabbed near Ring Road, adjoining Cantonment area.
The police have also seized two .32 bore country-made weapons, along with four live bullets, 1,000 drug tablets, two motorcycles, seven purses, four mobile phones, Rs 1.30 cash, ATM cards, Aadhaar card and other documents, from them. The suspects confessed to committing ten snatching-related incidents in the city, the police said. According to the police, they snatched a purse from a woman at Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar and withdrew Rs 1.40 lakh from her ATM card. They also looted Rs 8,000 cash from Saroj Rani in Cantonment police station area.
In another incident, they snatched a purse from a lady, containing Rs 25,000 cash and a mobile phone. A purse containing Rs 11,000 cash and a mobile phone was snatched by them at Power House road. They have committed similar crimes at various places in the city, including Gol Diigi, Basant Vihar, back side of district courts, near Civil Hospital, Hazi Rattan chowk and Bhatti Road.
