Bathinda, April 11
Following on the heels of the ETT TET Pass teachers who recently announced that they would be holding a protest during the SAD’s Baisakhi political convention, it is the turn of the PPP Mode Adarsh School Staff Union to make an announcement of staging a protest during the SAD’s political convention.
Making public their plan, the teachers said the government had left with no option but to narrate their situation at the ‘janta ki adalat’ during the Baisakhi Mela.
They said the state government had been ignoring their demands for several years now and was forcing the Adarsh school staff towards taking such steps and making the public aware of state government’s anti-people policies. Elaborating on their plans, state president of the union, Deepak Grover said despite several meetings, including those held with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema and other senior functionaries of the Education Department, their demands had not been met. The main demand of the union was the merger of all types of Adarsh Schools in the state that would facilitate inter-school transfers of teachers of these schools.
The union members said the issue was earlier taken up with the Chief Minister. Badal had assured the union that it would be discussed during Cabinet meetings and a conclusion would be arrived at but nothing had been decided till now.
Grover said during a meeting with Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema, held in December last year, the demand of merger of all types of Adarsh Schools was raised and during the meeting even the DPI (secondary education) had expressed his interest in doing so. Besides merger, the government must also work towards giving the employees of these schools full grade pay and regularisation of their jobs, he said. The union members added that the state government made its intentions pertaining to running these schools clear when it removed the word ‘government’ from the names of these schools, thereby cheating the employees of these schools. They demanded that the word be added back to the names of these schools to lend credibility to the Adarsh Schools. — TNS
