Two months after the School Education Department mooted a proposal to provide online coaching to all classes XI and XII commerce stream students in 10 Meritorious Government Schools in the state to prepare them for highly competitive entrance exams like CA and ICWA, the department has scrapped the e-tendering process for the appointment of online coaching.
Reason for scrapping the e-tendering process is that only five parties have participated in the technical bids and only two of these bidders were found eligible. So, the department has decided to scrap the short term e-tender process.
In October 2018, the School Education Department had invited tenders for the online coaching of 1,354 commerce stream students in its 10 Meritorious Schools based in Bathinda, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mohali, Ghabdan (Sangrur), Hukumat Singh Wala (Ferozepur), Gurdaspur, Talwara (Hoshiarpur) and Patiala.
The financial bids for online coaching were to be opened on December 4, but the same were postponed, hoping that more bidders would join it.
Society for Promotion of Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students, a wing of the School Education Department, has opened 10 meritorious schools for students of government schools who have scored more than 80 per cent marks in the matriculation exams. These residential schools, affiliated to PSEB, are for classes XI and XII students. The schools impart teaching in non-medical, medical and commerce streams. Students are provided free education, lodging/boarding, books, stationery and uniforms.
