Bathinda, July 27
Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra today directed the officials of the Public Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) to take safety measures and ensure cleanliness at the bus stand. The accumulation of garbage and dirty water are a common sight at the bus stand. Moreover, safety measures like first-aid box and fire extinguishers have not been taken yet.
A number of travellers said open-air urinals with dirty water getting accumulated nearby should be removed from the bus stand as the foul smell emanating from these pervade nearby areas.
Gurcharan Laddi, a traveller, said, “The accumulation of garbage and dirty water around the bus stand increases the threat of a disease outbreak and epidemics. The administration has to direct the PRTC officials to abolish the open urinals.”
On the one hand, the government was promoting the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, but on the other open urinals could be seen on the premises of the bus stand, he added.
ADC (Development) Shena Aggarwal said, “We have intimated the PRTC officials to provide first-aid boxes at the bus stand as well as in the buses, fire extinguishers and maintain cleanliness at the bus stand.”
Surender Singh, General Manager, PRTC, said, “We will follow the directions of the administration and try to maintain proper sanitation at the bus stand. We will provide first-aid boxes and fire extinguishers here.”
