Faridkot, November 13

Panic gripped Dalewala village of Faridkot on Wednesday after two brothers went missing from fields.

Saajan Singh (11) and Harbhagwan Singh (13), along with their brother Gurvinder Singh (7), had gone to the fields to play. After sometime, Gurvinder returned home to tell his mother that his brothers were attacked by some stray dogs in the fields. Family members and neighbours rushed to the fields, but did not find them. After waiting for some time, the family approached the police.

Police officer Dilbag Singh said, “A police team was sent to the village to search the boys, but they could not be traced as of yet. We have also made announcements in adjoining villages, seeking the help of villagers in tracing them.” The family members are worried about the boys as many incidents of stray dogs attacking small children were reported from the area in the past. Sometime back, a two-year-old girl and her eight-month-old sister were mauled by a stray dog at Bholuwala village. While the latter had died on the spot, her sibling was taken to a hospital in a critical condition.

A passer-by who tried to rescue the children was also bitten by the dog. He had also received treatment at the local Civil Hospital.  A number of incidents of dogs attacking other animals and human beings have also been reported from the area in the past.

Earlier, a pack of stray dogs had killed a peacock near Faridkot Fort. The peacock had taken a short fly to eat insects on the road alongside the fort when the dogs killed it. Despite such repeated incidents, no efforts are being made to tackle the stray dog menace.
