As many as 12 persons, including a woman, were booked for allegedly opening fire at the son of a Congress leader in Chambal village, 10 km from here, on Wednesday evening. The victim, Gurpreet Singh, is son of Sadhu Singh Chambal, a Congress leader of the area.
Inspector Kanwalpreet Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Sarhali police station, said six of the accused had been identified as Ranjit Singh, his wife Komalpreet Kaur Jassi, son Robin Singh, Gurbachan Singh, his son Jasnoor Singh of Chambal village and Harpreet Singh Happy of Sheron village. Other accused who accompanied them are yet to be recognised. Gurpreet said the accused, armed with firearms, opened fire at his house intending to harm him.
The two sides have an enmity over some issue. The accused are absconding, the police said.
