Usha Ananthasubramanian elected chairperson of IBA

The managing committee of the Indian Banks'' Association (IBA) at its meeting held on January 25 elected Ms Usha Ananthasubramanian, MD & CEO of Allahabad Bank, as the Chairperson of the IBA, an association of Indian banks and financial institutions based in Mumbai for the year 2017-18.

She is the first woman chairperson of the IBA.

SPS Hospitals, Ludhiana, holds training programme 

An advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) was conducted at SPS Hospitals, Ludhiana, on January 29. Around 30 participants were imparted training with for the resuscitation of newborn by renowned faculty from Delhi, Jalandhar & Ludhiana. Dr Surinder Bisht, Dr Surjit Kaur Madan, Dr Pardeep Kumar Sharma and Dr Tania Mahal conducted the training.

SCOPE organises seminar on implications of Union Budget 

SCOPE organised a seminar on "Implications of Union Budget 2018" in collaboration with PwC on February 2. The seminar was addressed by Dr UD Choubey, Director General, SCOPE, and Prof NR Bhanumurthy of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy.  The programme was attended by a large number of CMDs/Directors and senior finance executives of public sector enterprises.

NFL’s quarter 3 net profit rises 22% to Rs 145 crore 

National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) has reported a profit before tax of Rs 231 crore for the nine months ended December 31, 2017 as compared to Rs 203 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The company achieved a profit after tax of Rs 145 crore, up 22% as compared to corresponding period previous year. 

Powergrid awarded for best risk management

Powergrid has been awarded the CNBC-TV18 "Best Risk Management Framework & Systems Award" in two categories - 'Power' and 'PSU' at the 4th India Risk Management Awards (IRMA). The award was received by Director (Finance) K Sreekant at an event held in Mumbai on January 19. The award is recognition to organisations who have significantly added to the understanding and practice of risk management. Both the awards were presented by Dr NourielRoubini, Professor of Economics, New York University's Stern School of Business. 

Vinod Kumar takes over as IOC’s Chief Vigilance Officer

Vinod Kumar has joined as the Chief Vigilance Officer of IndianOil. An officer from the Indian Forest Service (1987 batch), Kumar has held several prestigious positions in the Government of Uttarakhand. Before joining IndianOil, he was heading Land Survey Directorate in the state and looking after the critical issue of forest land transfer cases under the Forest Conservation Act. 

British Council unveils free IELTS preparation app

British Council has launched two free tools for improving English language for IELTS preparation and imparting user-friendly techniques of reading, writing, speaking and listening. These are IELTS prep app - an interactive mobile application and Understanding IELTS course - a free online course. The app focuses on providing guidance for listening and speaking tests along with modules on vocabulary and grammar with special IELTS test tips. It is available for both android and iOS users.

MBD Group organises meet of distributors, booksellers

The MBD Group organised a meeting of MBD distributors and booksellers from Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmour, Shimla and Kinnaur districts of Himachal Pradesh in Bilaspur on January 28. The meet was inaugurated by Balwant Sharma, Director and National Sales Head of the MBD Group, along with other officials.

Nexen Tires Corporation organised a dealers' meet in Ludhiana on January 27. The conference was attended by almost 75 dealers from diverse industries. Nexen Tires' India Director JK Choi and Jacob Lee, Sales Head - Asia Pacific Nexen Korea, were also present. NexenTires Corporation is a South Korea based company, established in 1942. The company holds a great market value and has clients such as Porsche, Jaguar, Audi, Range Rover and many more. 

Fest of Baba Farid Group of Institutions concludes

The two-day international fest of Baba Farid Group of Institutions concluded in Bathinda on January 28. More than 175 students from 22 countries participated in the event. The fest also hosted live performances of Punjabi singers Kulwinder Billa, Sunanda Sharma, Gurnam Bhullar and many others. Bollywood singer Neha Kakkar also performed in a live concert at VIBGYOR 2K18. Punjab Cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi was the chief guest on the occasion.

National Voters’ Day celebrated at Guru Nanak College, Muktsar

The English Literary Society celebrated 8th National Voters' Day at Guru Nanak College for Girls, Muktsar, on January 25. The motive of the programme was to bring awareness about the significance of voting rights in a democracy. Apart from apprising the students and staff about the history of the day, the structure of the Election Commission was also described among other things. Various other competitions were also organised.

Chandigarh-based nutrition expert to get Asean award 

Chandigarh-based food and nutrition expert Sarita Khurana has been chosen for the prestigious Asean Business Excellence Award -2018 by the Indian Entrepreneurs Chamber, Malaysia. She will receive the award at Pulai Spring Golf and Country Resort, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on February 24. 

J&K Bank inaugurates second branch in Agra

Expanding its footprint outside the state, J&K Bank has opened its second business unit in Agra, which is the bank's 16th branch in Uttar Pradesh. Bank's president Pushap Kumar Tickoo inaugurated the branch in the presence of Zonal Head Delhi Rajni Saraf, vice-presidents Saresh Sharma and Janak Raj. The branch clocked a business of Rs 3.55 crore on its first day of operations. 

IDBI Bank’s quarter 3 loss narrows down to Rs 1,524 cr

State-run lender IDBI Bank's Q3 standalone loss narrowed down to Rs 1,524.31 crore as compared to Rs 2,255 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. Net interest income for the quarter under review more than doubled to Rs 1,665.51 crore. For the December quarter 2016, it stood at Rs 813.25 crore. Operating profit increased by 680% to Rs 1,420 crore for the quarter ended December 2017 as compared to Rs 182 in the corresponding period previous year. 

Medicaid Hospital, Amritsar, holds cancer awareness meet 

Medicaid Hospital, Amritsar, organised a patient awareness meet on World Cancer Day on February 4. Dr Ravneet Singh Grover, managing director and chest specialist, interacted with the audience and stressed on the need to aware people about cancer and its prevention, detection and treatment. He also announced the launch of "Cancer screening package" for early and timely detection of cancer.
