The administration on Saturday decided to sack the caretaker and his wife from an old-age home in Ward No. 11 for reportedly misbehaving with an elderly woman. The action was taken after a video of the misbehaviour and thrashing of an elderly woman went viral on social media.
In the video, a person and his wife were seen thrashing an elderly woman and dragging her out from the old-age home. The accused has been identified as Vazir Bhatia, caretaker of the old-age home, and his wife Pinki, while the elderly woman was identified as Anto Devi of Barana village in the district.
Gaurav R Karan, secretary, Red Cross, said the old-age home was being run by Rotary Central Club members. They had appointed Vazir as caretaker.
“We visited the old-age home and also inspected the CCTV footage in the presence of the club management and also inquired from the person who made the video. The caretaker was found guilty during the preliminary inquiry and the management has been asked to remove the caretaker and his wife from there,” he added.
Yogender Nath, President of Rotary Central Club, said they were shocked to see the video. “Our club has been serving elderly persons for the past three years, but the video was inhuman. That’s why we decided to sack the caretaker and his wife,” said Nath.
They had appointed him to serve the elderly and not to torture them, the President added. “We will appoint a new caretaker soon,” Nath added.
Anto Devi said she had no complaint against the club members.
