New Delhi, June 26
“The security of the people of Delhi is not just a commitment of the government, it is something the government is actively working on to achieve. It is an important day for Babarpur residents as the installation of CCTV cameras begins here today. This was a key promise of the government to the people and is being fulfilled today,” said Labour Minister Gopal Rai while inaugurating the project in his Babarpur constituency.
He said the government was committed to creating a secure environment for citizens, especially for women and children, in the city. He said, the government was taking several steps to strengthen the rule of law. Installation of CCTV cameras throughout the city was the biggest step in this direction, he added.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had also inaugurated the installations in his constituency in Patparganj earlier this week. For the past six months, MLAs and the CCTV camera manufacturer BEL, along with the resident welfare associations (RWAs), had been surveying their respective areas and identified spots for surveillance.
Rai said, “Today, women are afraid to step outside their homes. CCTV cameras strike at this fear itself. Women can now step outside with confidence as the cameras are watching out for their security. The Station House Officers of the areas will have live feed of all cameras to avoid any delay in accessing footage.”
“The PWD headquarters will have access to the footage over the internet for which a WiFi connection has been provided by the government,” said Rai. —TNS
