Zirakpur, July 16
In a raid at Amlas Club, a discotheque at Zirakpur, the police arrested one person and also booked three partners of the club, on the intervening night of July 15-16.
Investigation officer (IO) Joginder Singh said a police team of Zirkapur reached the discotheque at 2 am following a complaint about an ongoing party even after 1 am. The party was in full swing when the cops entered the discotheque much to the shock of revellers, said the IO.
The police also found liquor being served and the night club functioning beyond the permissible time of 12 am. Finding gross violations of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) orders, the police registered a case under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code at Zirakpur police station against Chanpreet Singh, Karan Shroff, Maninder Singh, all partners of Almas Club, and arrested its manager Damanjeet Singh.
The police said the crackdown was ostensibly aimed at curbing the number of fatal accidents on the road due to drunken driving, besides checking obscenity and serving of liquor after midnight at discotheques.
Moreover, club owners are flouting norms and not closing discotheques at the prescribed timings.
Last year, in an attack on a youth, he was allegedly thrashed by six to seven men and a woman in full public view at a mall in Zirakpur for over one-and-a-half minutes.
