Ex-sarpanch succumbs to assault injuries

Family members of Kharak Punia former sarpanch Ramprasad Sharma, who succumbed to his injuries at Agroha medical college on Monday night, staged a dharna and refused to take the body for cremation on Tuesday.

The family members alleged the victim had suffered serious injuries in an attack about nine days ago, but the medical staff did not issue the appropriate medico legal report. Later, they alleged that the police, too, took the case leniently.

They had a heated exchange with SHO Devender Singh on Monday morning when the SHO rejected their allegations of leniency towards the accused. Later, DSP Jaipal Singh rushed to the spot and placated the family members while assuring to arrest the accused. Radhe Shyam, a villager, said that Mukesh, a resident of the same village, had an argument with the daughter-in-law of the deceased.

After some time, Mukesh along with his accomplices barged into the house and attacked Ramprasad Sharma. He was rushed to the hospital where he died. The police said they had arrested two persons. — TNS
