Residents seek upgrade of Beas left bank road

Residents of the district has urged the authorities to upgrade the left bank road of the Beas via Ramshila-Nagar-Manali to boost tourism.

They said since the two-laning of the right bank road of the Beas was in progress, traffic is often diverted via the left bank road. During the 1995 floods in the district, the route was used to carry relief and rescue operation in the region.

Those associated with the tourism industry said even after the completion of the two-laning of the right bank road, traffic congestion would continue to be witnessed during the peak tourist season.

The residents said the upgrade of the left bank road would prove to be a boon for the tourism industry of Kullu-Manali.

Dalip Kumar, a local resident, said the road was in bad condition and required immediate maintenance.

The Manali Hoteliers'' Association also submitted a charter of demands to the state and Central governments and urged the authorities to initiate work under the Bharat Mala road project.

Association president Gajender Thakur said," We urge Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and Forest Minister Govind Thakur to raise the issue with Union Minister Nitin Gadaki during his upcoming visit to Kullu," he added.

Anil Sngraia, Superintendent Engineer, Public Works Department, said the project (Ramshila-Nagar-Manali) was under consideration for approval under the Bharat Mala road project.
