Faculty crisis hits studies at Nurpur college

There is resentment among new students enrolled in Arya Government College as their studies have been affected due to the seven posts of lecturers of different subjects lying vacant.

The college which had come into existence in June 2002 during the Prem Kumar Dhumal government had total strength of 2,250 students in the outgoing session. It is likely to touch 2,500 in the coming academic session.

As per information, the college has three sanctioned lecturers’ posts for mathematics, but all are lying vacant. The single sanctioned post in history and geography has been lying vacant. Apart from this, one of the three sanctioned lecturers’ posts in chemistry and one of the two sanctioned posts in political science have also been lying vacant.

The college has BA, BCom, BSc and bachelor degree of vocational courses comprising hospitality and retail management. Keeping in view the students’ interest in vocational courses, the state Education Department has enhanced the seats in this course from 40 to 45 in the coming academic session. The first phase of admission in the college got over on July 2 and the second phase of enrolment with late fee will conclude on July 21.

The college administration has approached local MLA Rakesh Pathania and apprised him of the present state of affairs. Pathania said he was taking up the issue of vacant posts in the college with the state government and these posts are likely to be filled soon.
