Chandigarh, July 3
The wife of one of the accused in the Haryana Civil Services (Judicial) paper leak scam has alleged that he had been mercilessly beaten in the Burail Jail.
Sweety, wife of Kuldeep who was arrested recently and is on police remand, submitted an application to the court which will be heard on Wednesday.
In the application, she stated that when she met her husband on Monday, she discovered how he had been “given merciless beatings” by the police/SIT, especially SHO Punam Delawari and other officials connected with the investigation. It was alleged that the police were trying to shift the entire blame on her husband and obtained his signatures on blank pages. He had allegedly received injuries on his left shoulder, ankle, thighs, knees and other parts of the body as well, she added.
Apprehending that he would again be beaten up by the police, Sweety pleaded to the court to direct the Jail Superintendent to get Kuldeep medically examined from a government hospital. Kuldeep was said to be an agent who roped in candidates who could buy the question paper.
Three persons, including Balwinder Sharma and two beneficiaries Sunita and Sushila, were initially booked by the police in the high-profile case. Later, Ayushi and Congress leader Sunil Chopra, alias Titu, were also arrested in the case.
A High Court committee looking into the case had recommended scrapping of the examination after a prima facie finding that some candidates had access to the question paper.
The committee had said at least two candidates, Sunita and Sushila, had the question paper. The committee had also stated that Balwinder Sharma unequivocally denied prior acquaintance with Sunita, the general category topper. The call details furnished by the service provider, on the other hand, revealed that 760 calls and SMSes were exchanged between Sharma and Sunita over the past one year. — TNS
