Chandigarh: Unidentified miscreants vandalised a car at Maloya village on the intervening night of February 5 and 6. Sources said the police received information around 1.40 am about the car being set on fire. They reached the spot and found that the windowpanes of an Alto car had been broken and someone had set the body cover of the car on fire. The police said the car owner, Balwinder Singh, claimed that he did not have suspicion on anyone. The police said they were scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area.  TNS

Man held for beating nephew

Chandigarh:A Mani Majra resident has been arrested for allegedly thrashing his 11-year-old nephew and forcing him for child labour. According to the police, a complaint was received by the women helpline regarding a minor being beaten up by his uncle. Counsellors swung into action and reported the matter to the police after which the child was rescued. The police arrested the minor’s uncle, Salman, a resident of Gobind Pura, Mani Majra. Varinda Sharma, counsellor, women helpline, submitted a police complaint following which a case was registered. TNS

Man found hanging 

Chandigarh: A 45-year-old man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Sector 37 here on Wednesday.  The victim has been identified as Ram Bahadur, a resident of Sector 37, who worked as a cook at a goverment  office in Sector 17. The police received an information about the incident around 9 am. Cops rushed to the spot and took the victim to the Government Medical College and  Hospital in Sector 32 where doctors declared him brought dead. The victim is survived by his wife, a son, who is a school student, and a daughter, who is married. TNS

One held with banned vials 

Chandigarh: One person has been arrested with banned injections. According to the police, the accused, identified as Shubham, a resident of EWS Colony, Dhanas, was arrested near his house after he was found in possession of 20 banned injections. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Sarangpur police station. TNS

Tewari holds rally at Dhanas 

Chandigarh: Former Union Minister Manish Tewari, who is also among the contenders for the Congress ticket for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, has  assured the residents of Dhanas  of resolving their  issues within six months of the formation of the government of his party at the Centre. Tewari  was addressing a rally  organised  by his supporters.  Mohhamad  Asif, a former sarpanch  of the village, alleged  that Dhanas was totally  ignored by the  BJP government, adding that no development work was done in the last four  years.  TNS

Two booked for assault

Kharar: The police have registered a case under Sections 323, 324, 506 and 34 of the IPC against Ghulam Nabi and Sudam Hussein for allegedly assaulting and injuring Ali Hedar, a resident of Jhanjeri village. The complainant told the police that his neighbour used to throw filthy water of their house in the drain in front of his house. When he stopped them from doing so, the accused not only abused him but also attacked him with rods. OC

15-yr-old girl goes missing

Kharar: The police have registered a case under Section 363 of the IPC against an unidentified youth on the charge of kidnapping a 15-year-old girl from Mundi Kharar. The victim’s father in his complaint to the police said his daughter had been missing for the past few days. The complainant said he kept searching for her daughter for several days, but failed to get any clue. He alleged that the girl had been kidnapped by an unidentified youth. OC

CU student’s bike stolen

Kharar: An unknown person stole a motorcycle belonging to Rohit Kumar, a student of Chandigarh University. Rohit said he had gone to attend an event at the university. He had parked his motorcycle in the university. Around 11 pm, he noticed that his motorcycle was missing. The police have registered a case. OC
