City shuttlers off to a winning start

PANCHKULA:Chandigarh shuttlers started their campaign in the North Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship with a convincing 3-0 win over Himachal Pradesh at tau Devi Lal Stadium here today.

Chandigarh shuttlers started their campaign in the North Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship with a convincing 3-0 win over Himachal Pradesh at tau Devi Lal Stadium here today.

Dhruv Bansal rallied to beat Gagan Grover 16-21 21-17 21-14 in the first match, while Garima Singh drubbed Hritika Sharma 21-12 21-6 to make it 2-0 for Chandigarh. 

Anushran Garg and Rishabh Rai then defeated Dharmender and Harpreet Singh 21-11 21-11 in the doubles contest to seal a 3-0 win for Chandigarh. 

Haryana blanked neighbours Punjab 3-0 in their opening match. Ravi downed Madhav Kanojia 21-18 21-8 before Anupama Upadhaya nudged past Radhika Sharma 21-19 21-18. Ravi then paired with Kush Chug to trounce Chirag Sharma and Yuvraj Bhinder 21-16 21-17 in the doubles encounter to help Haryana win the match 3-0. — TNS
