Contractor in Wembley society fraud case lands in police net

In case of Rs12-crore fraud of Wembley Cooperative Housing Building Society in Sector 91, the Sohana police have arrested the contractor Satkar Singh Bawa, here.

Bawa was produced before the local court, which sent him to a two-day remand under the police custody.

Inspector Manjit Singh, the Station House Officer of Sohana Police Station, said the names of Bawa along with two former office bearers of the society, Jasbir Singh Rattan and Vinod Kumar were involved in the FIR in this connection after last year’s report of Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted in the matter.

“Bawa has been arrested in the case of cheating and embezzlement of funds of the society while Jasbir Singh Rattan and Vinod Kumar are still at large”, said inspector Manjit Singh.

The SHO added that seven persons, including some members of the society’s management committee, were booked in the case, registered under Sections 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant or by banker, merchant or agent), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) at Sohana Police Station in 2014. Notably, the housing society, which was to come up at Sector 91, was floated by the Punjab Irrigation Department, former Executive Engineer, Jaswinder Singh.
