Court no to abortion of 10-year-old

CHANDIGARH: A local court today dismissed an application of the city police for the abortion of a 10-year-old girl, who became pregnant after being raped for seven months allegedly by her maternal uncle.

Chandigarh, July 18

A local court today dismissed an application of the city police for the abortion of a 10-year-old girl, who became pregnant after being raped for seven months allegedly by her maternal uncle.

The plea was rejected by the court on the grounds of health and risk to the life of the victim. Two gynaecologists from the GMCH, Sector 32, submitted their report before the court.

The Judge had sought the report from the doctors after the police moved the plea on Saturday. A native of Nepal, Kul Bahadur, was arrested in this connection a few days ago. It was alleged that he raped his niece seven to eight times at a house in a village falling under the Sector 39 police station area. He used to live in the neighbourhood.

The victim reported the matter to her mother after she started having pain in the abdomen. — TNS
