The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association will open one more stadium, the fifth in the state, on June 1 at Gumma in Shimla district. It will be inaugurated by its former president Anurag Thakur. It’s located 60 km from the state capital at an altitude of 5,500 feet above sea level. The facility at Gumma will have a pavillion, dressing rooms, practice area, four turf wickets and an outfield where class I Bermuda grass has been specially planted to give the players an international playing experience.It has been constructed with an outlay of Rs 3 crore. “Anurag Thakur will inaugurate the facility in presence of president and members of the Shimla District Cricket Association and other prominent leaders and people of the area. Besides Dharamshala, we have stadiums in Amtar in Hamirpur district and at Bilaspur too,” said an HPCA official.
Chess meet from May 27
The Mohali District Chess Association will organise a two-day Mohali District Chess Championship for boys and girls in various age groups from May 27 at Smart Wonders School, Sector 71, Mohali, the organisers said on Tuesday. The interested players can register for the event before May 25 at www.mohalichess.in.
Golf camp for kids from June 1
The Chandigarh Golf Association (Golf Range) will conduct a summer camp for junior golfers from June 1 to June 10. During the 10-day camp, the participants will be taught about the basics of the game, the organisers said on Monday. The camp will be held from 9am to 10am every day under the supervision of Mahesh Kumar. The interested golfers can confirm their entries at the camp venue before June 1.
St. Xavier’s enter cricket final
St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, beat Gurukul Global School, Manimajra, by two wickets to book a place in the ongoing St. Xavier’s Cricket League final on Wednesday. Batting first, Gurukul Global School managed 91/9 in 20 overs with Shashank scoring a vital 31. Khushpreet, Himanshu and Guransh claimed two wickets each for the hosts. In reply, St. Xavier’s achieved the target in 14 overs with two wickets to spare. Yash Pujari made 25, while Himanshu contributed 17 runs to the chase. Yugvir claimed three wickets for Gurukul Global School.
