DAV spikers off to a winning start

CHANDIGARH:KB DAV School, Sector 7, came from behind to register a 21-25 25-14 25-16 win over St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, on the opening day of the inter-school boys’ U-17 volleyball championship here today.

KB DAV School, Sector 7, came from behind to register a 21-25 25-14 25-16 win over St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, on the opening day of the inter-school boys’ U-17 volleyball championship here today.  

Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 21, drubbed Government High School (GHS), Sector 52, 25-21 27-25, while New Public School, Sector 18, humbled Vivek High School, Sector 38, 25-10 25-9. 

Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 29, prevailed 25-15 25-8 against GMSSS, Sector 39, and St Xavier’s School, Sector 44, overcame GMSSS, Sector 27, 25-19 20-25 25-5.

In the girls’ U-17 competition, Tender Heart School, Sector 33, nudged past GMSSS, Kaimbwala, 25-21 25-22, while GHS, Sector 50, drubbed GMSSS, Sector 56, 25-9 25-3.

Rachit shines with ball

In the boys’ U-14 inter-school competition, St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, registered a 51-run win over IS Dev Samaj School in the opening match at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8. 

Put in to bat, St Joseph’s School made 108/8 in 20 overs, with Shray Chibber hitting a 39-ball 35. Ranvijay added 10 runs to the total. Rahul took 2/20, while Vasu picked 1/16. 

In reply, Dev Samaj School were bowled out for 57 runs in 16 overs. Rachit was the pick of the bowlers for St Joseph’s, claiming 3/7 in his three overs, while Ridhim took 1/4. 

Ishant (22) was the top scorer for Dev Samaj School.  

Vivek High shuttlers win

Vivek High School beat Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, 2-1 in the opening match of the boys’ U-17 inter-school badminton tournament. 

The British School, Sector 44, blanked Chitkara International School, Sector 25, 2-0, while Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate Public School, Sector 26, got the better of GMHS, Sector 34. St Kabir School, Sector 26, drubbed Delhi Public School, Sector 40, 2-0.

Ankur School, Sector 14, registered a 2-1 win over DAV Public School, Sector 8, and Gurukul Global School, Mani Majra, beat AKSIPS, Sector 45, in their campaign opener.

In the U-17 girls’ category, DAV Model School, Sector 15, registered a 2-1 win over Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, while Sacred Heart School drubbed Shivalik Public School 2-0. St Stephen’s School blanked St Xavier’s School, Sector 44.    

PGGC-11, PU Campus log wins on Day 1

An all-round performance helped Post Graduate Government College (PGGC), Sector 11, register an eight-wicket win over Sri Aurobindo College in the opening match of the Inter-College Men’s A Division Cricket Championship at the PU grounds here on Thursday. Electing to bat, Aurobindo College could only manage 60 runs in 17 overs. Sahul (2/11) and Budhdev (2/12) claimed two wickets apiece. In reply, PGGC boys reached home in 11.1 overs with Vishal scoring an unbeaten 34. In another match, PU Campus beat PGGC, Sector 46, by five wickets. Put in to bat, PGGC, Sector 46, were restricted to 72/9 in 17 overs. Amrit Lal was the most successful bowlers for PU, claiming 4/15. Yogesh Aggarwal took 2/13 in his two overs. Sandeep (15) was the top scorer for PGGC, Sector 46. Needing to score nearly 4.30 runs per over for victory, PU Campus reached home in 16 overs with five wickets to spare. Prabat Rathaur made 17 runs, while Kshitij Sharma contributed 12 runs to the chase.
