The crime branch of the UT police has arrested an accomplice of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for illegally possessing a country-made gun and a live cartridge. The accused already has four cases registered against him, including one in Rajasthan for opening fire at the police.
According to the police, the accused, Javed Jhinjha, is a resident of Bingawali village in Fazilka district. He was arrested from small chowk in Sector 11 while possessing a .315 bore gun and a live cartridge.
Inspector Amanjot Singh, in-charge of the crime branch, said Javed already had four cases registered against him in Punjab and Rajasthan.
“In three of the cases, Javed was a co-accused with Lawrence Bishnoi,” Singh said. The police said while three cases against Javed were registered in Abohar, one case was registered at Sikar in Rajasthan.
The accused is out on bail. A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused at the Sector 11 police station.
Police sources said they were investigating who all were in contact with Javed. “We will also investigate from where the accused procured the gun,” the police said.
