PUTA elections: Incumbent president recounts ‘achievements’

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University Teacher’s Association (PUTA) president Rajesh Gill on Sunday said that over the last two years PUTA had worked to force authorities to withdraw several measures detrimental to teachers’ interest.

Panjab University Teacher’s Association (PUTA) president Rajesh Gill on Sunday said that over the last two years PUTA had worked to force authorities to withdraw several measures detrimental to teachers’ interest. 
 
“These measures included Biometric Attendance for teachers, digitization of Student Feedback System, mandatory Combo Cards violating the privacy, compulsory filing of Property Returns by the teachers, house allotment on priority basis, etc. We have also stonewalled efforts to ‘review’ rotation policy,” she said. 
 
Gill was speaking at a press conference to discuss PUTA’s achievements, as the elections to key posts in the Association will be conducted on August 21. If elected, Gill would be PUTA president for the third time. She is from the sociology department.
 
“Humbled by an overwhelming response of the community, we once again come to you along with our team for your vote and support,” she said. 
 
In a statement, the PUTA president said that, under her, PUTA had stood up for upholding the dignity of teachers and ensured Ph.D. increments from UGC.
 
“Rs 5 crores were sanctioned on the special initiative of PUTA leadership to provide computers to teachers in Humanities, Languages, Laws, USOL, DES, etc., whichhave subsequently been provided to them,” said the statement.  
 
On re-election, Gill would focus on recruitment of faculty is the need of the hour and strategizing for the grant of Central University Status for the University.
