Jagriti Sharma, a semester VIII student of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), bagged the first position in the zonal round of the National Elocution Competition.
The topic of the elocution was ‘Pharmacists are your medicine experts’. The event is an initiative of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association to create a platform for students to express their views freely, gain exposure, inculcate the spirit of pharmacy in them and to make them realise their responsibility towards society.
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, hosted the event. Fourteen participants from across Punjab took part in the zonal round.
Jagriti has now been nominated for the semi-final round and will represent the North Zone at New Delhi.
In her paper, Jagriti highlighted that the doctor to patient ratio, in our country of 1.2 billion population, is low resulting in medication errors and pharmacist is the key healthcare team member who can plug this disparity. She said pharmacy was both a science and
an art. She was rewarded with a certificate and cash prize Rs 1,000.
