CHANDIGARH: West Bengal’s teams won the boys’ and girls’ titles on the concluding day of the Junior National Sevens Rugby Championship at Panjab University grounds here today.

West Bengal’s teams won the boys’ and girls’ titles on the concluding day of the Junior National Sevens Rugby Championship at Panjab University grounds here today.

In the boys’ final, West Bengal edged out Maharashtra 17-12. Odisha claimed the third position by defeating Bihar 19-5. Earlier, in the semifinals, West Bengal overpowered Odisha 13-0, while Maharashtra outplayed Bihar 29-0.

Meanwhile, West Bengal beat Bihar 34-10 to win the girls’ title. Delhi claimed the second runners-up position by defeating Tamil Nadu 10-5. In the semifinals, West Bengal blanked Tamil Nadu 39-0, while Bihar defeated Delhi 17-5.

Earlier, in the boys’ matches, Delhi defeated Jharkhand 17-0, while Tamil Nadu registered a 10-0 win over Goa. Rajasthan defeated Uttar Pradesh 22-0, Chhattisgarh defeated Madhya Pradesh 22-5, Jammu & Kashmir blanked Maharashtra 10-0, Gujarat defeated Uttarakhand 22-0, Telangana overpowered Chandigarh 17-5 and Kerala defeated Punjab 10-5. 

In the girls’ category, Chandigarh overpowered Jammu & Kashmir 5-0, while Chhattisgarh registered a 19-0 win against Uttar Pradesh. Kerala outplayed Madhya Pradesh 15-0 and Goa overpowered Haryana 10-5. Odisha logged a 14-0 win against Goa and Maharashtra defeated Haryana 12-0.
