A much needed change is happening in anganwadis in the district, as some of these are being spruced up to have more congenial environment for children to learn and grow up in. The walls are being repainted to appeal and interest the children, with educational and engaging lessons for children being painted on the walls of some of the anganwadis by village panchayats and donations made in rural areas. Not only the walls, but better “children-friendly” furniture is also being bought.
“Around 20 anganwadis have been upgraded and renovated. Many of these are in the Sudhar block while some others are in the urban areas. We have a design format and all these are being renovated on similar lines,” says ADC (Development) Apneet Riyait.
There are around 2,400 anganwadis in the district. “It is a great initiative of the district administration, but the government, NGOs and companies under the CSR must adopt the anganwadis to transform them,” an anganwadi worker said.
Meanwhile, one of the supervisors said they were not only banking on the government, but seeking help of the society to bring a change. “We are encouraging families to donate things like toys and books etc which are not longer in use, so that these can be used for the children,” one of the supervisors in the anganwadis said.
“It is important, as it is the most critical age for the brain of child to get mostly developed till the age of three. So, if we are able to give them conducive environment to grow up, it is important to give them a sound foundation too,” she added.
